Penrith Angling Association supports the...

Formed in 1996, their mission is to:

  • Assist in the conservation, protection and improvement of rivers, streams, their bank sides and all associated wildlife in the Eden catchment.

  • Increase the knowledge and awareness of the importance and beauty of the River Eden and its catchment.

The River Eden is under growing pressure from:

  •  Erosion of river banks by livestock.

  • Intensive farming.

  • Flash flooding from hill and lowland drainage.

  •  Abstraction, pollution and silting.

  •  Global warming, increasing frequency of floods and drough

What the Eden Rivers Trust is doing about it:

  • Undertaking a series of surveys of the Eden and its tributaries to establish baseline data.

  • Restoring bank-side habitats (60km to end 2001).

  • Identifying locations where scientific survey indicates that sustainable populations of salmonids can be established by stocking.

  • Seeking to restore wetlands and water meadows.

  • Working with farmers to improve land and stock management.

  • Working to reduce abstraction and pollution and restore river flows.

  • Improving access for fishermen and public.

  • Providing lessons and river visits for local schools based on the National Curriculum.
